Augmented Reality ART

UX UI Design

Role: Directed User Experience and Interface Design
TLDR:

We love pop-up stores. We also love collaborating with friends at other agencies (e.g. FakeLove) to produce experiences that leave audiences smiling. Working with the team at KNP Co. Japan's famous skincare brand SK-II needed to tell their origin story through the use of interesting technologies. We curated a digital user experience to spread the word.

When launching a refreshed product line it can be challenging to make a splash and gather consumer interest. The market is flooded with boutique items that can be delivered same day to your door. With modern day on-demand services like Amazon, eBay, or Taobao, the advantage is to the consumer. SK-II, Japan’s most famous skincare brand wanted to do things a bit differently. Installing a series of pop-up stories around Tokyo, they would create an immersive experience that told the story of SK-II and demonstrate the innovations that went into their production process.

Working with my team, I designed an augmented reality experience and interface that would allow users to scan an artwork wall in the pop-up store. This activated the animated SK-II origin story AR (augmented reality) experience. The app controls needed to be immediately intuitive so any pedestrian could use it without spending time onboarding. The designs also incorporated a language selector to cater to locals and foreigners alike.
